THREAT ASSESSMENT MANAGEMENT
A behavioral threat assessment is a collaborative process to identify, assess, and manage the risk of threats of targeted violence posed by an individual or group. Threat assessments take a proactive approach to help identify, mitigate, and manage threats of mass violence and are an ongoing process with interventions designed to de-escalate the situation. Rather than focusing on the individual’s characteristics, a threat assessment looks at the risk factors and where they are on a pathway to violence. Early intervention is crucial to preventing threats of mass violence from turning into acts of mass violence.
Threat assessments require a standardized, innovative, and collaborative approach at all levels. Response to threats to cause harm or mass violence helps to prevent cases from falling through the cracks, with the goal of providing early intervention to a person in crisis.
SCHOOL SAFETY COMPLIANCE
